About us
The Leicestershire Parents Support Group of Diabetes UK, is a Voluntary Group run by parents and carers of children with Type 1 diabetes.
Since the inception of the group in 1975 by Dr John Hearnshaw and his wife Hiliary, we have held monthly branch meetings and events, providing opportunities for parents and children to meet together on an informal basis to share experiences and chat about the issues that arise in living with diabetes.
We continually strive to provide opportunities for parents, carers and children to learn more about their diabetes and its management, through our education events, roadshows and peer support groups.
Our well known "Camp Charnwood" Residential holiday which takes place one week in the summer for children with Type 1 diabetes has been instrumental in providing support to newly diagnosed children.
All monies raised throughout the year from our fundraising events is used to help with the cost of the above activities and to fund research into childhood diabetes.
